Hot Air and Showers

I am super excited to be participating in the Twofer Challenge at last.  The premise of the Twofer Challenge is to use the same die to create two cards for different occasions.  The theme for Challenge #14 is Balloons.  As you can see I have followed Darnell's lead and gone with the hot air variety.  Which gave me the opportunity to finally break open this NBUS die set from Elizabeth Crafts.  The above card uses the die set as it was intended, while the card below uses the set in a non conventional way.

It was super super easy to create the umbrella.  All I had to do was cut the large balloon body and then place that scalloped flounce die upside down at the point I wanted my umbrella scallops to be.

Once I had the balloon cut, I applied a couple of coats of purple embossing powder and UTEE and sprinkled some pale gold Tempera powder into the molten goo.  The raindrops and sentiment are from an old stamp set my good friend Jaine Drake designed ages ago and are unfortunately no longer available.  The umbrella hook was from a WPlus9 set but I had to extend the handle slightly so it was in proportion with the canopy.  The weather has been very grim here for well over a week now - so much rain and the wind has been howling.  We've already lost some roof tiles and I am definitely feeling under the weather!  Despite the lack of natural light, I did manage to capture some of the lovely gold on camera though!

The theme for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Whatever the Weather

As the recipe for Challenge #391 at Less is More is Take 3 and my first card includes 3 clouds and 3 circles I am entering it there.

Lots of snippets were used in the first card so I am playing in Pixie's Snippets Playground Challenge #348

Thanks for stopping by, especially if you take the time to leave a comment.  Your kind words will make my day!!!

  1. Hi Kate! I was doing a quick check of entries (so many already!) and found your comment about the link. You're fine - Mr Linky is sometimes a bit slow to kick in or you even need to refresh your screen. But you're here and I'm so delighted you finally joined us after watching from afar. If you brought the girls cookies and lemonade then that will be just hunky dory - they're really quite greedy but lovely little piggies at times!. I'll be back ASAP to comment on your card as am off back to bed to rest but wanted to let you know that your link is just fine.

    Welcome hugs from Di xx

  2. First, welcome! Glad you came to play along, Kate! Second, glad you used some NBUS! Your two designs are fantastic! I love how symmetrical and colorful your encouragement card is with the pretty hot air balloon, clouds, sun, and round sentiment treatment! (I have that dotted circle die and have never thought to use it as a sun~thank you for the idea!) Then you gave us a gorgeous get well card done in purple with gold Tempera for enormous effect! I'm sad that raindrop stamp is no longer available. :( Again, thank you for playing in #14! I hope you had fun and come back often and I hope both the weather and your health improves! Great to see you joining Pixie's, as well. I'll push you on the swings when I get there! Hugs, Darnell

  3. Oh! You've made the cutest card with your hot air balloon die and the dotty sunshine. I love that one! I'm also super impressed with how you created your umbrella to get the shape and then the fantastic richness and texture. Most beautiful with the gold worked into it! I'm so glad you were able to play along with us at Twofer!

  4. Beautiful cards Kate! Love your pretty hot air balloon card. So pretty with the strips of alternating solid colour and patterned design. Your sun and clouds create a beautiful sunny day scene! How clever to use part of the balloon for an umbrella. Fantastic design with your drops of rain falling from the top of the card. Your layers of embossing powders and gold touches, make this umbrella reallyl shine. Thanks for playing along with us at Twofer Card Challenge!

  5. Both cards wonderful, Kate! They are so different from each other, even in mood! I love the sun rays and overall design of your dream card. Your umbrella looks like it was always meant to be. The thick coat of "goo" and shine are gorgeous! Thanks for joining in the fun with us at the Twofer Card Challenge!

  9. Love, love, love these!! Your hot air balloon card is so cheerful and happy, I love the colors and pattern paper you chose. Your umbrella card is just so cool looking!! I've never heard of that technique you used to get that beautiful color. It sounds more advanced than just sprinkling it with embossing powder. Well it looks amazing.
Thanks for sharing this with us at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.

  10. What a dreamy scene you created with your hot air balloon, Kate ... it's sunny and bright and so brilliantly detailed! Such clever use of the balloon to create that deliciously glimmery, shimmery umbrella ... the shine is fabulous ... makes it seem those raindrops have been long-tumbling! Great to have you playing along with us at Twofer ... thank you! Hugs, Anita :)
