Poppy Hugs

Challenge #251 has just gone live at Time Out Challenges and it's an Inspiration Photo Challenge!

Here's a closer look!

This challenge is being generously being sponsored by Kim of Running Stitch Design - most of you will remember her as a former Design Team member at Time Out!  Kim is offering this pretty bag to our Top Pick as chosen by the Design Team (inside USA only - thank you for understanding).  Our top pick will also be invited to guest design with us at a future date so I hope you will take some Time Out of your busy schedule and come play cards with us!

Poppies have long been associated with November 11 - Remembrance Day in Commonwealth countries and Veterans Day in the USA so you may be inspired to create something along those lines.

I love poppies.  I love the splash of colour they add to fields and roadside ditches as they herald the arrival of summer  but mostly I love them because they remind me of my dear father who was always Poppy to his beloved grandchildren.

I have a few poppy dies but for this project I thought I'd use an NBUS set (Memory Box Ruffled Poppy).  I cut my poppies from pink card stock and blended the edges with Candied Apple DI.  I cut a background panel from a sheet of pretty DP (from my many, many pads of paper) that best reflected the colours in the bag.   Initially I filled the whole panel with poppies before I considered the difficulty of adding a sentiment.  After some thought (and advice from my lovely team member Nonni) I carefully peeled off one of the poppies and was able to place this short but sweet "hugs" sentiment (Poppy Stamps Playful Hugs) in the spot vacated.

I'd like to enter the following challenges NBUS Challenge #56;
Triple B November Challenge - Birds/Butterflies/Blooms;

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you go away a little inspired!  Your visits and comments are always a joy and always appreciated!  And if you leave a comment, I’ll know you were here and how to find you!

Kate

  2. Wow, Kate, you had the perfect pp and poppy dies to capture the beauty of Kim's bag! I have a soft spot for poppies and I think yours are really sensational and great job making room for that perfect sediment! Thank you for inspiring everyone to use their NBUS! Hugs, Darnell

  4. Those poppies are absolutely gorgeous. Great idea to use pink paper as your base for them. The patterned paper you chose is wonderful, and the placement of the sentiment is perfect.

  7. What a great idea to add your lovely poppies to DSP, Kate. I'll have to remember that. Poppies are my second favorite flower and they add a splash of color to the landscape just like they did to your card.
